Grand Forks Anne Carlsen Center, along with the Occupational Therapy program at UND, are excited to sponsor a Sensory Santa Event on Dec 2nd. This event will provide a sensory-friendly visit with Santa Claus. The sessions last 20 minutes and we include a Santa social story to help prepare the children for visiting with Santa. There is a preparation room available with extra Santa hats and beards and a variety of sensory activities.
The families are welcome to come 15 minutes prior to their appointment to spend time touching Santa’s suite, rocking on a therapy ball, or just relaxing. The children will have the option of sitting on Santa’s lap, in a chair next to Santa, on a therapy ball, standing, sitting on the ground or any of these during his/her meeting with Santa.
If the child is non-verbal, we ask that the parents provide a few ideas to help Santa engage your child and personalize the visit. There will be refreshments available for the family after the visit with Santa.
