Through our residential services for clients with behaviorally complex needs, we offer unique support for younger clients through specialized services in our Horseshoe Park unit. With our team of highly trained Direct Support Professionals, Nurses and Behavioral Health Staff, clients are supported to develop new skills, access a wider range of opportunities and engage in activities. As clients become more independent, there is an opportunity to transition into one of our three Cottage settings where they can continue to develop their skills with increased independence.
Through collaboration and our continuum of services, we utilize a team approach in order to provide individualized and person-centered services. For individuals receiving Behaviorally Complex services, the following departments and services are vital components of this continuum.
There is a close relationship between residential and educational services. Our Direct Support Professional staff are with the clients before school, go with them to school, and come back to the residential settings after school. This allows for consistent program implementation and communication between teachers and the evening/weekend residential staff.
The recreation department helps guide the recreational activities that take place in the residential area throughout the day and evening hours. They also coordinate all extracurricular activities (e.g., Special Olympics, Boy/Girl Scouts, etc.). Residential clients and staff also have access to the swimming pool and gymnasium during evening and weekend hours.
