Center for Learning (Pre-K-12)
Anne Carlsen's Center for Learning provides an enriched environment that utilizes on-site therapy and individualized assistive technology in a school setting, accommodating each learner's diverse needs. We tailor each student's education and match their abilities through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Our goal is to provide students with the individualized instruction and innovative learning techniques which enable them to greater independence.
Each student has an interdisciplinary team to provide a specialized, supportive and nurturing environment that encourages both academic learning and social growth. Each classroom consists of a special education teacher, general education teacher and several support staff. The standards of learning are based on the North Dakota state standards and evidence-based instruction is incorporated throughout their entire day.

Assistive Technology
Anne Carlsen strives to provide the necessary support for learners to access curriculum and gain a greater level of independence in all activities through the use of assistive technology. Classrooms are structured so that each learner experiences a variety of educational opportunities in a technology rich environment.
Curricular Lessons
Curricular Lessons demonstrate the core components of Universal Design for Learning by adjusting learning targets to reach each student. Every student comes with varied backgrounds, expectations, abilities, and learning styles, and Universal Design for Learning functions to increase access for all to promote continued independence.
Educational Accreditation
In addition to our accreditation through AdvanceED, because of our commitment and belief in the power of technology and its impact on our learners, Anne Carlsen received designation as an Apple Distinguished school for several years. Our teaching staff are required to complete training curriculum to be Apple Teachers.
1:1 Learning Approach
iPads and computers are provided as personalized learning tools using a 1:1 approach. Students are also engaged with a variety of learning opportunities through the use of Smartboards, hands-on activities, applications and real-life experiences.
Integrated Services
Clinical Services
Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy conduct assessments, establish programs, and train staff in multiple areas that include eating, communication, daily living skills, sensory integration, and walking/stretching programs.
Residential Habilitation
Anne Carlsen is a statewide leader in residential facilities for children and young adults with complex medical needs or behavioral disorders. We believe children and young adults of all abilities deserve the opportunity to live and thrive in an environment that enhances their potential.
Behavioral Health
Our Behavioral Support team, including Board Certified Behavior Analysts and Registered Behavior Technicians, spend time in each classroom. They are responsible for assessments, establishing behavioral support programs, staff training, and monitoring of program success.
