The individual is hired as an employee of the organization, business, or corporation. They will receive pay at a competitive rate for the position.

Job coaches for the individual are paid by Anne Carlsen Center.

This is unique to each individual. Services are agreed upon by a support team. Some individuals will require extended service lengths while others will require less. The employment program coordinator will work with the team, the individual, and the employer to best support the worker while honoring the needs of the employer.

There is usually some modification of duties needed when hiring a supported worker but not always. Supported workers can often meet many of the needed tasks with minor accommodations. The potential employee and the employment program coordinator will work with the employer to set tasks and expectations in a way that meets the needs of the employer to the largest extent possible.

There are many reasons beyond the obvious one that everyone deserves the dignity and self-support that having a job provides. Workers with job coaches miss less work and have a longer average length of employment than entry-level workers without supports. There is support for the worker in all phases of the hiring/working process; from orientation to time management, work training to daily tasks. Also, a worker with supports always has a trained professional job coach to talk with about the job tasks or whatever else is keeping them from being as productive as they can be at work. Everyone has a bad day at times and workers with supports have a built-in resource to help them in the workplace. Finally, there are tax-breaks and sometimes other incentives for hiring individuals with a disability that can ease some of the up-front outputs when hiring staff.
