Speech Therapy

Our speech-language pathologists use family-centered, evidence-based practices to support our clients and their families as they gain new skills and independence. Our professionals are educated and trained to evaluate and treat children with speech, language and swallowing problems. Specific areas of treatment can include articulation, expressive language, literacy, receptive language, social skills, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and oral motor skills for eating and swallowing.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Speech therapy will evaluate and establish effective and functional communication methods to promote social engagement. These methods cover a wide range of low-tech to high-tech supports that fit the individual’s needs and abilities. These supports and methods may be temporary aids or permanent additions. Funding, programming, and training support is provided/offered.

Feeding and Swallowing

Speech therapists assess a child’s eating and swallowing, as well as the coordination and strength of the muscles used for chewing and swallowing. We team with families to provide support, education, and guidance to promote successful and safe feeding. We support nursing, bottle, and food stage progression.

Early Intervention

Children who are under three-years of age who are evaluated for direct therapy services will be referred to Early Intervention services, which can be accessed through the Department of Human Services. This may provide additional opportunities to support their child’s development, as well as connect them with other services such as respite care or medical assistance. When Anne Carlsen Early Interventionists and direct therapists treat the same child, the family and child will benefit from the ongoing collaboration across all of the child’s natural environments.
